BATTLE OF SUPREMACY: AGAIN, RIVERS ASSEMBLY OVERRIDES GOVERNOR FUBARA ON 3 BILLS
Driving on the crest of Part 100(5) of the Structure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, and in furtherance of legislative positivism within the curiosity of the individuals, the Rivers State Home of Meeting, on Thursday, at its 94th Legislative Sitting, has once more over overridden the assent of Governor Siminialayi Fubara on three Payments, which had been earlier handed and transmitted to Governor Fubara for assent over a month in the past. The Home took the choice to override the Governor after he withheld his assent to the Payments.
Commenting on the three Payments – the Rivers State Training (Return of Faculties) (Modification) Invoice, the Rivers Electrical energy Market Invoice, and the Rivers State Commissions of Inquiry Invoice, 2024 which had been represented by the Majority Chief, Hon. Main Jack, and debated by Members, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, cited Part 100(5) of the Structure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 because the enabling provision which empowers the Home to override the Governor, the place he withholds his assent; and when the Speaker put the query, Members unanimously voted within the affirmative.
Talking on the choice of the Home, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Amaewhule emphasised that the Governor Fubara can not maintain again the State on account of his indolence and ineptitude; stressing that the State should transfer ahead.
Talking additional, Rt. Hon. Amaewhule described Governor Fubara as one who sees himself as above the Structure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Judiciary and different extant legal guidelines of the State. However maintained that the Home would proceed to carry on to the Structure and democratic ethos; enthusing that by advantage of Part 100 (5) of the Structure, these legal guidelines are actually in pressure in Rivers State.
