The Transmission Firm of Nigeria (TCN) reported on Friday that the Presidential Villa and a number of other central Abuja districts have been thrown into darkness resulting from growing incidents of electrical energy cable theft.
In a joint assertion with the Minister of Energy, Adebayo Adelabu, TCN disclosed that vandals focused a 132kV transmission line and underground cables supplying energy to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environment.
The broken 132kV underground cable, which transports bulk electrical energy to TCN’s Central Space transmission substation, was stripped of 40 meters of 1x500mm² XLPE conductors. This substation provides energy to eight distribution feeders beneath the Abuja Electrical energy Distribution Firm.
Ndidi Mba, TCN’s Basic Supervisor, revealed that the theft occurred close to Millennium Park, a brief distance from the Presidential Villa. Areas affected by the outage embody Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Lifecamp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and sections of the Presidential Villa.
Mba assured that TCN engineers have been deployed to the location to restore the broken cables and restore energy to the affected places.
