Nigeria’s Federal Minister of Training has clarified that the federal government has not stopped under-18 college students from taking the West Africa Senior College Certificates Examination and the Nationwide Examinations Council exams.
The Minister of State for Training, Dr Yusuf Sununu, clarified in Abuja on Friday whereas receiving questions from journalists at an occasion to mark the 2024 Worldwide Literacy Day.
He described the misunderstanding and misinterpretation of what was mentioned by the Minister of Training, Prof. Tahir Mamman, on the matter as extremely disappointing.
He defined that the minister was talking on the 18 years of entry age into the tertiary establishments as was practiced within the 6-3-3-4 system of training.
“It was stunning to say {that a} college on this nation gave admission to youngsters at ages 10, 11 and 12 years. That is improper.
“We’re not saying that there are not any exceptions; we all know we are able to have proficient college students which have the IQ of an grownup even at ages six and 7, however these are only a few.
“No person mentioned no youngster will write WAEC, NECO or every other examination until at age 18. It is a false impression and misrepresentation of what we’ve got mentioned,” he mentioned.
This comes as Nigerians rejected the place that under-18-year-old college students can not sit for WAEC and NECO.
