MAKURDI, BENUE STATE — Governor Hyacinth Alia has strongly condemned the continued wave of violent assaults in Benue State, describing them as a deliberate and calculated try to forcefully take over ancestral lands belonging to indigenous communities.
In a video obtained by The Bureau Newspaper from an interview aired on AIT, the governor decried the mindless killings and displacement of locals, linking the violence to broader land-grabbing motives by legal parts.
“What is occurring isn’t just random violence,” Governor Alia said. “It’s a calculated transfer aimed toward displacing our individuals and taking on their ancestral lands. This should not be allowed to proceed.”
The governor appealed to safety companies to urgently intervene and restore peace in affected areas. He emphasised that the rights of the indigenous individuals of Benue State should be protected, and people behind the violence should be held accountable.
Benue State has witnessed a surge in lethal assaults in current weeks, notably in rural communities. Lots of the incidents have been attributed to suspected armed herders and militia teams, resulting in the displacement of 1000’s.
Governor Alia reiterated his administration’s dedication to making sure safety and justice for victims, calling on the federal authorities and worldwide human rights our bodies to pay attention to the unfolding disaster.
