An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Courtroom on Tuesday remanded six males at Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan for alleged armed theft and receiving stolen property price N32 million.
The defendants are Mathew Elegbede, 34, Adeleye Nurudeen, 37; Obina David, 39; Aromeh Friday, 34; Anagaba John, 35 and Chukwuka Aralia, 56.
They’re standing trial on a three-count cost of conspiracy, armed theft and receiving stolen items.
The Chief Justice of the Peace, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, didn’t take the plea of the defendants as a consequence of lack of jurisdiction.
She remanded the defendants pending the recommendation of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) from Oyo State Ministry of Justice.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case till April 22 for point out.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Akeem Akinloye, informed the courtroom that the defendants dedicated the offences on Nov. 10, 2024, at about 10.30 p.m. at Podo Highway, Problem space of Ibadan.
Akinloye stated that 5 of the defendants, whereas armed with weapons, cutlasses and different harmful weapons, attacked one AremuAgunbiade, the Chief Safety Officer(CSO) and different safety guards of Asabi Plastic Manufacturing facility.
He stated that the defendants carted away 280 luggage of Lotrene and 220 luggage of Ctnopol, valued at N32 million, belonging to the corporate.
Akinloye stated the sixth defendant, Aralu, acquired the stolen gadgets from the opposite defendants, realizing similar to be stolen.
He stated the offences contravened Sections 1 (2), 5 and 6 (B) of the Theft and Firearms (Particular Provision) Act Cap R11, Vol. 14, Legal guidelines of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004
