Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday reportedly foiled an try by Nigerian Police to take management of the Rivers State Unbiased Electoral Fee (RSIEC) on Friday, October 4, 2024.
Fubara spokesman Nelson Chukwudi in a press release disclosed that at 1:00 am, a group of policemen led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) tried to breach the fee’s gates and robust room to grab delicate electoral supplies meant for the native authorities elections scheduled for October 5.
Chukwudi alleged that the deployment was stated to have been ordered by the Inspector-Normal of Police.
This growth comes amid tensions surrounding the native authorities elections, with considerations over potential disruptions.
“The rogue policemen have been stated to have tried to scale by means of the gates and robust room of the Fee to cart away delicate Electoral supplies meant for the conduct of Saturday’s native authorities election within the State,” Chukwudi stated.
“Nevertheless, the evil plots of the rogue policemen and DC Ops have been botched when vigilant safety officers alerted principal officers of the Fee and related authorities authorities, who instantly knowledgeable the Governor of the event.
“The Governor instantly led a group of presidency officers, lawmakers from the Nationwide Meeting and State Home of Meeting, high political stakeholders, and different leaders to storm the power.”
In the meantime, addressing newsmen in entrance of the RSIEC Workplace on Aba Street in Port Harcourt, after an encounter with the policemen, the State Governor, Fubara, condemned the conduct of the policemen on unlawful obligation, saying that the IGP was taking his friendship with some Abuja-based politicians too far.
