The Home of Representatives Committee on Info and Nationwide Orientation said on Wednesday that the N8.7bn budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Info and Nationwide Orientation is inadequate to cowl its operations in 2025.
At its 2025 funds defence session in Abuja, the committee additionally rejected the N1.2bn capital part of the funds, describing it as grossly insufficient.
The Chairman of the Committee, Fatoba Olusola (APC-Ekiti State), famous that the allocation for the ministry in 2024, when the nationwide funds was N28.7tn, was greater than the N8.2bn allotted in 2025 when the nationwide funds stands at N49.7tn.
“It’s unacceptable for an company that bears the accountability of disseminating data to obtain such a small portion of the 2025 funds,” Olusola stated.
The Deputy Chairman of the committee, Felix Nwaeke, expressed dissatisfaction with the allocation and urged his colleagues to advocate for added funding for the ministry.
The spokesman for the Home, Akin Rotimi (APC-Ekiti State), identified that many authorities companies missing the mandatory experience have been performing the duties of the ministry. He advised that each one allocations for data and orientation within the 2025 funds needs to be positioned underneath the ministry, the place the experience resides.
Amobi Ogah (LP, Abia) criticised the envelope budgeting system practised within the nation, saying it hinders the efficiency of presidency companies. He known as on the Nationwide Meeting to desert the system to permit companies the liberty to perform in line with their capacities.
In his ruling, the chairman said that the committee rejected the capital part of the funds and pledged to work with the management of the Home, the Senate, and the Minister of Finance to extend the funds.
Earlier, the Minister of Info and Nationwide Orientation, Mr Muhammed Idris, stated the ministry would deepen its engagement with Nigerians on key governance points in 2025. He urged Nigerians, significantly the youth, to undertake the values exemplified by the nation’s founding fathers, akin to Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, and the Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello. This, he stated, would rekindle the spirit of nationalism within the youthful technology.
