Mojisola Adeyeye, director-general of the Nationwide Company for Meals and Drug Administration and Management (NAFDAC), has urged producers and distributors to adjust to the ban on alcohol in sachets and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.
Talking throughout a session on the NAN Discussion board in Abuja on Sunday, Adeyeye reiterated the ban and the settlement signed by the Distillers and Blenders Affiliation of Nigeria.
In 2018, the sale of alcoholic drinks in sachets and PET bottles smaller than 200ml was banned in Nigeria.
Producers had been subsequently given a phased timeline to halt the manufacturing and distribution of the merchandise.
Adeyeye stated the settlement has reached its ultimate part, including that the purpose is to fully eradicate the merchandise from the market.
She stated NAFDAC has carried out intensive enlightenment campaigns and stakeholder engagements to make sure adherence to the ban.

On Friday, the company carried out a mop-up of alcoholic drinks in sachets and PET bottles at Abuja’s Wuse Market.
NAFDAC stated merchandise value over ₦52 million had been seized in the course of the operation.
