The Authorities of Cross River State has prolonged the maternity depart from three to 6 months to offer nursing moms sufficient time to breastfeed their infants.
The directive is contained in a round dated 16 December. The Information Company of Nigeria obtained the round from the Workplace of the Head of Service in Calabar on Wednesday.
In response to the round issued by the Head of Service, Harmless Eteng, the brand new directive takes impact from 20 December.
Mr Eteng acknowledged that the choice to extend the maternity depart was “necessitated by the state’s poor report of unique breast-feeding”, which stood at 38.95 per cent within the 2023 WHO score
“Given this poor proportion, the governor has accredited that henceforth, each youngster born within the state be entitled to 6 months unique breastfeeding, which can enhance the well being and wellbeing of the kid within the state.
“Accordingly, maternity depart is hereby elongated from three months to 6 months for all nursing moms within the state civil/public service,” the round learn.
