The Nationwide Oil Spill Detection Response Company (NOSDRA) has commenced remediation work on the crude oil spill from Shell Petroleum Improvement Firm, SPDC, 16″ Nun River-Kolo Creek pipeline positioned at Obololi group in Southern Ijaw Native Council of Bayelsa state.
NOSDRA Director Basic, Chukwuemeka Woke, in an announcement, mentioned the company is actively monitoring the continuing response and constantly evaluating the scenario to make sure that applicable actions are deployed accordingly.
In keeping with Woke, they acquired a report on Monday, February 17, 2025, of a crude oil spill from Shell Petroleum Improvement Firm (SPDC) 16″ Nun River-Kolo creek pipeline at Obololi group in Southern Ijaw LGA, Bayelsa State, and instantly they swung into motion to sort out it.
He added, “Following the receipt of the report because the lead Company on all issues associated to grease spill incidents in Nigeria, the Company convened and held a Joint Investigation Go to (JIV) to the incident space on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.”
“We led JIV to represent the investigation crew made up of related stakeholders together with SPDC (the operator), State Ministry of Surroundings, and the Neighborhood to determine the indices across the incident and suggest needed regulatory compliance actions to mitigate it.”
He disclosed that observations and updates have been made according to the reason for the spill which was unknown as a result of the suspected leak level/ pipeline was submerged within the water implying that the JIV was an inconclusive train.
“SPDC is making ready a coffer dam to allow the crew to get entry to the spill level; containment of the spill space has been accomplished; short-term storage tanks are in transit to the spill location; and restoration of free part oil has commenced on Friday, February 21, 2025,” he mentioned.
