Entrepreneurs of petroleum merchandise in Nigeria reportedly wrote to President Bola Tinubu to complain that the value of Dangote Refinery’s diesel, which is at N900 per litre, is negatively affecting their companies.
Devakumar Edwin, Vice President, Dangote Industries Restricted, disclosed this on X (Twitter) Areas session organised by Nairametrics.
“Petroleum product entrepreneurs in Nigeria have written to President Bola Tinubu to complain that the refinery native costs, which have dropped from N1,200 to N1,000 and now N900 per litre, are impacting their companies negatively,” he stated.
Edwin highlighted a number of the challenges going through the Dangote Refinery and its affect on Nigeria’s gas provide and costs.
In accordance with him, the refinery struggles to promote about 29 tankers of diesel per day resulting from low patronage from native petroleum product importers.
“Because of this poor native patronage, the refinery exports most of its diesel and aviation gas,” he stated.
“We’re importing most of our crude oil from so far as the US and Brazil, and we’re exporting virtually all of our manufacturing, together with our diesel and jet gas. The importers are virtually refusing to purchase from us.”

Edwin had earlier stated Dangote Refinery merchandise can be exported if the Nigerian Nationwide Petroleum Firm Restricted and different petroleum sellers within the nation refused to patronise it.
“We have now been exporting aviation gas, we have now been producing kerosene, we have now been producing diesel, however yesterday, we began the manufacturing of PMS. So, that was the final stage. The one factor now omitted is petrochemicals.”
“So, the excellent news for the nation is we have now began producing PMS from our refinery,” he had stated on a radio programme.
Requested if the petrol can be offered regionally, Edwin replied, “Effectively, I defined how there was a sort of a blockade from lifting our merchandise throughout the nation. The merchants have been making an attempt to dam (it), and so now we have now been exporting our petroleum merchandise. PMS, we’re able to pump in as a lot as doable to the nation.
“But when the merchants or NNPC usually are not shopping for the product, clearly, we’ll find yourself exporting the PMS as we’re doing with the aviation jet and diesel,” he stated.
Edwin lamented that Dangote Refinery began going through completely different challenges it by no means anticipated when the refinery was set to start operations.
