The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, introduced on Monday that 1,687,860 candidates have already registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.
The board said in its weekly bulletin that registration has been ongoing for 26 days, starting on third February 2025, with simply six days remaining earlier than the deadline on eighth March.
The 2025 UTME is scheduled to happen from Friday, 18th April 2025.
JAMB had earlier projected two million candidates for the examination.
Offering a breakdown of the continued registration, JAMB disclosed that within the first week alone, 201,867 candidates registered. Within the second week, the quantity rose to 560,025, adopted by 528,832 within the third week. By the fourth week, the entire had elevated to 1,290,715.
The board reiterated in its bulletin that there can be no extension of the registration interval past eighth March 2025.
A evaluation of the rapid previous UTME in 2024 confirmed that 1,989,668 candidates registered for the examination. Of those, 1,904,189 sat the examination, whereas 80,810 have been absent.
A complete of 1,402,490 candidates—73.7 per cent of those that sat the examination—scored under 200, whereas simply 0.4 per cent achieved scores above 300.
